Makeup... No makeup
I have been dreaming of shooting something less "weddingy" and a bit more young, fresh and focused on natural beauty. Think no false eye-lashes, no hair extensions, no air brushing... When I saw Bibi I knew she was the one who could totally work the natural look to an absolute perfection. I've known Bibi since she was little and always wanted to shoot with her, she is the most stunning person, inside and out, kind, patient and easy to work with! We had so much fun! Bibi was raised in Ibiza. She is a flower child, she loves nature and if she had to plan her own wedding she would most definitely incorporate Ibiza countryside, nature, fresh products from the island and lots and lots of animals into the picture.
We shot this session on Contax 645 and I used Fuji film (400H), Carmencita Film Lab developed the rolls and scanned all the images. When I got the scans back I didn´t have to edit anything! Seriously hand on my heart, all the images you are seeing are un-edited and I haven't used Photoshop. All the images came out exactly how I imagined them in my head when shooting. The colours, textures, Bibi's magnetic blue eyes...
We did some beauty close ups before putting the wedding dress on Bibi (HOW COOL IS THIS DRESS BTW?). It took us literally 20 minutes to pull this natural look, all thanks to mega talented Diva Borrelli and her hair and makup skills.
Diva used some amazing organic products on Bibi's skin and with just few waves of her magic brush she created this glowing, healthy look.
When the sun started to go down we decided to chang Bibi's hair and Diva pulled it up in a messy pony-tail. We chose sequin espadrilles for Bibi to wear. Espadrilles are from the Baleares and I feel like every bride should have a pair to wonder around the gardens or walk down to the beach for the sunset photoshoot. Flowers were provided by one and only Kristin from Flowers Ibiza and as always Kristin exeeded our expectations.
The look was as natural and as real as possible. Minimal. Simple. Pure.
With single flowers, super stunning yet extremely simple dress by an indie Italain designer Alessia Baldi, no jewellery and only a touch of makeup - it was a dream come true for me as a photographer.
I wanted to put together some tips and tricks on how to do your own wedding makeup without missing a beat. So I've asked my good friend, Diva Borrelli, for help and here is what she came up with:
1. Always be yourself!
You are probably seeing a lot of inspirations in magazines, on Pinterest and blogs. Remember that not everything you see will suit you! It's super important to book your trial and talk to your makeup stylist. Try! Try! Try!
2. Less is more!
Keeping it simple and natural will make you feel more relaxed. Don't try looks you've never tried before. You can go for little makeup and still have amazing results on pictures.Too much makeup can make you look worse, especially in hot and humid conditions.
3. Messy hair!
You want that messy wind kissed hairstyle? Apply a little bit of volumizing mousse on damp hair, then scoop your hair tightly into a ponytail and wrap it into a bun. Blow dry your hair for 4 minutes on high heat, then unfold your bun and braid for some beachy fuss free waves.
4. Keep it moist!
Before applying any makeup remember to always prep the skin with an oil-free moisturizer. Try some organic products that would match your skin type. It's vital to chat about your skin type with your makeup stylist during the trial.
The whole shoot wouldn´t be possible without amazing Cristina Di Giovanna, wedding planner & designer event stylist from Le Jour du Oui and Danielle Hodgson-Lindley from Velvet Circus Ibiza who styled and sourced all the props and deco.
I love working with these girls! It´s such a creative, fun and open minded environment…Dream of every wedding photographer.
